In tonight's game, Lindy Ruff made a coach's decision to bench on of the best players on the Devils.
Lindy Ruff Benches Meier and Other Stars in 4-3 loss to the Panthers
The Devils took on the Panthers tonight at home and unfortunately did not play a full game. The Panthers came out to a strong 4-0 lead into the third period when Lindy Ruff decided enough was enough for Timo Mier. He was subsequently sat for all but one shift in the third period.
With the media curious about a potential injury, Ruff cleared the air after the game.
Lindy Ruff post-game: "Coach's decision on anyone who didn't play." Added on Meier: "Can't take the penalties he took."
Meier Off to Slow Start to the Beginning of the Season
Meier isn't off to the start he likely wants this year after signing a whopping $70.4 million dollar contract. The forward has yet to record a point in three games played and has tallied 6 penalty minutes, some of those which cost him the rest of his playing time tonight.

Despite this, the Devils aren't off to the worst start, with a 1-1-1 record. Hopefully, they can get their star on board for a quick turnaround to the start of the year.
