John Tortorella makes it clear when he will name Philadelphia's next captain
After a disappointing season last year, the Philadelphia Flyers traded away long time captain Claude Giroux to the Florida Panthers.
With the Flyers just announcing the hiring of John Tortorella, we are about to enter a new era of Flyers hockey, and a new captain to steer the ship.
A lot of names are being tossed around on who should be the next captain, and some of the favourites are definitely: Sean Couturier, Cam Atkinson, Scott Laughton and who personally I think will receive it, Kevin Hayes.
Couturier and Laughton have been with the team the longest, but John Tortorella has already expressed he cannot wait to begin working with Kevin Hayes, so I believe he has the upper hand.
With training camps still a few months away, it doesn't seem like Tortorella is in any rush to name the next captain though, according to Tortorella he is going to wait until he gets to know the players better, and of course this will have to include management in the decision as well.
Torts says @NHLFlyers' captain won't be chosen until he gets to know players more. A captain will not be named before training camp. Coots, @CamAtkinson89 @Laughts21 and @KevinPHayes12 are top candidates IMO. Fletcher will have input.— Sam Carchidi (@BroadStBull) June 21, 2022
