Today the Montreal Canadiens made their first transaction under the Jeff Gorton regime by claiming Kale Clague from the LA Kings.
The 6 foot 180 lbs. left shot defenseman was the 51st overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
Clague has not looked out of place in the NHL adding 11 points in 33 career games including 5 points in 11 games this season filling in during Drew Doughty's injury.
Clague is exactly the kind of player the Canadiens mentioned wanting as he can skate well and has a good first pass which will allow them to fulfill Gorton's urge to play with pace and speed.
This seems like a solid pickup for a team sure to lose some players as they look to either retool or rebuild.
