We know hockey is a crazy sport and players get traded all the time, so its very rare to keep a team together long-term and it's very special when they do. Take the Pittsburgh Penguins core of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang who have all spent their entire careers as members of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The trio have all had outstanding careers in Pittsburgh, winning 3 Stanley Cups together. Likely all 3 will have their Jerseys retired by the Pittsburgh penguins as well when they decide to retire.
However the trio realizes with the salary cap and Letang set to enter free agency, add in the rumours that Pittsburgh Penguins General Manager Ron Hextall could possibly be dealing Evgeni Malkin, this is the Penugins last shot with the team they have now to go out with a bang and win one more Stanley cup.
Though it's easier said than done, this core has proven 3 times over the years that it is capable of going the distance. In 2016 & 2017 the Penguins won the cup back-to-back but have failed to win a series since. But regardless, you can never count a team with these three stars out as contenders.
