The Montreal Canadiens were set to host the 2022 NHL Entry Draft this June at the Bell Centre. With the Canadiens expected to hold multiple 1st round picks, and possibly even the 1st overall pick in the upcoming draft. There were some fans finding a silver lining in the Habs terrible season by being able to attend the monumental moment.
Drafting
Shane Wright or
Logan Cooley in front of a hometown crowd could have been the spark that Canadiens' fans need to kick start the acceptance of their rebuild. Well those fans will still likely get to see that pick made, but there is now a chance that the NHL Draft won't occur in Montreal.
With provincial restrictions in Quebec not allowing for large gatherings NHL Commissioner shared the following yesterday:
"The 2022 draft may be moved from Montreal if there are still COVID restrictions in place."
Obviously this news is likely to not sit well with Canadiens fans as many had planned on attending this event in person to support the beginning of the Jeff Gorton/Kent Hughes era in Montreal.
