Brad Marchand is a villain, everywhere but in Boston and he's embraced that role. Marchand has always played the game with an edge and over his career it's cost him suspensions on six separate occasions for a total of 19 games.
Don't forget, he's also been fined on three other occasions.
Let's take a look at Marchand's full suspension history:
Marchand Elbows Umberger
2 Games
On March 15th, 2011 Marchand elbowed RJ Umberger in the back of the head in the neutral zone area. Marchand was not issued a penalty on the play, but was issued a 2 game suspension for the hit upon review.
Umberger was not injured on the play.
Marchand Low Bridges Salo
5 Games
The Canucks and Bruins hated each other after their Stanley Cup Final matchup so when tempers began to flare in their first meeting since the finals, it was no surprise that Brad Marchand was in the middle of things.
Marchand was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for low-bridging Salo in the second period and Salo suffered a concussion on the play. Marchand would receive 5 games for this play.
Marchand Slewfoots Brassard
2 Games
The OEL slewfoot wasn't the first of Marchand's career as he'd previously served a 2 game suspension for this slewfoot on Brassard.
Marchand Clips Borowiecki
3 Games
Of all Marchand's suspensions this was one of the few times Marchand didn't own his actions. He claimed the entire incident was accidentally as he turned up the ice, unfortunately for Marchand the NHL felt differently and awarded him 3 games for this hit on Mark Borowiecki.
Marchand Fines
Marchand has also been dealt $24,500 in fines over the years:
2011-12: $2,500 for slew-footing Matt Niskanen
2015-16: $5,000 for roughing
Gabriel Landeskog2016-17: $10,000 for tripping Niklas Kronwall
2017-18: $2,000 for diving
2017-18: $5,000 for cross-checking Andrew MacDonald
Marchand Spears Dotchin
2 Games
Marchand seemed to forget his manners against the Canucks again as he chose to spear Jake Dotchin in a very special place.
Marchand Elbows Johansson
5 Games
Marchand caught New Jersey Devils
Marcus Johansson with this aggressive elbow and was awarded with another 5 game suspension.
Well that concludes our review of Marchand's suspension history up until today's suspension for his slewfoot on Oliver-Ekmann Larson
