Edmonton Oilers make surprise goalie decision for game 2
Tonight we get to watch the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames play game 2 of the Battle of Alberta second round series. Game one while it was exciting for fans to watch, was not a good game to be a goalie as the Flames took game one 9-6.
Under one minute into the game, Oilers Mike Smith had already let in 2 goals and at the 6:05 mark of the first period he let in his 3rd goal on 10 shots, thus getting pulled and replaced with Mikko Koskinen.
Koskinen did fairly better in his appearance, stopping 32 of 37 shots, which is still not a good save percentage of .865, but it was better than Smith's .700. At the other end of the rink, Jacob Markstrom was left in the net for all 6 goals against and finished the game with a .786 save percentage stopping 22 of 28 shots, so it definitely was not a good night to be a goaltender.
Ahead of game 2 tonight, it was just announced that Mike Smith would be back in net for the Oilers to start the game.
The 40 year old goaltender has had quite the playoffs so far, pitching a .930 SV% overall despite giving up the 3 goals on 10 shots the other night. Smith definitely deserves another chance tonight to show he can preform in this series, so look for him to have a great rebound game tonight.
