Patrice Bergeron has spent his entire career with the Boston Bruins and it is very likely that is where he's going to finish his contract as well, but it sounds like the Montreal Canadiens will be doing everything possible should Bergeron become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
On Saturday night Elliotte Friedman shared the following about the Canadiens GM search:
"So Jeff Gorton had an interesting comment... one of the things he talked about was the possibility of somebody different as a GM, maybe an agent. The person who I believe they are interested in who is an agent is Kent Hughes. He's born in Montreal, he is bilingual, now in the Boston area so there is a connection to Gorton from both of them being around there. Among his client list include Patrice Bergeron, Kris Letang and formerly Vincent Lecavalier."
It sounds as if the Canadiens are looking at every avenue to position themselves to be a better team in the very near future.
Although it remains unlikely Bergeron leaves Boston it sounds like Montreal does want to follow in the Maple Leafs footsteps and bring some homegrown stars back to La Belle Province.
