Bruins Reportedly Could Consider Trading Beloved Star
A shocking claim has been made that would alter the Bruins future long-term.
A crazy plan for the Bruins future?
WEEI host Adam Jones made a stunning claim in regards to the Boston Bruins.
Shall Captain Patrice Bergeron retire, as has been speculated, Jones argues that the Bruins should look at trading
Brad Marchand Could the Bruins trade Brad Marchand?
Jones says that with Bergeron gone, that Boston should start focusing on the transition period, moving their aging team out and preparing for a new generation in Boston, and if Bergeron is gone, then Marchand is a logical trade piece for the Bruins.
I would sell high on Brad Marchand. Why? Because you need to start collecting draft collateral and prospects and anything that you can for the future of this team. I would be very open to trying to sell high on Brad Marchand and a couple other older, veteran players if you find out your number one center isn't coming back and your team's strapped for cash anyway.»
Prior to this claim, Jones had already speculated on Bergeron, questioning if Boston should move on from the legendary Forward if he chooses to stay in the NHL.
Bergeron, 37, has been with the Bruins since the 2005-06 Season, having been drafted 43rd in 2003 by Boston. Bergeron emerged as one of the greatest defensive Forwards of his generation, if not, perhaps even the greatest of all time, having won the Selke Trophy for best Defensive Forward 5 Times, including last year in 2022 at the age of 36. Bergeron is once again nominated for the Selke, along with New Jersey Center
Nico Hischier and Toronto Winger
Mitch Marner.
Bergeron is still one of the Game's best, but has spoken on retirement with the acknowledgement that he may not play much longer. If he does leave the NHL, Boston loses a major locker room leader, but Marchand 35, just as much a leader, is a double gut punch to a team that just broke the NHL record for most wins in the regular season (65), before a shock loss to the 8th-seed Florida Panthers altered the outlook of Boston's team.
Marchand and Bergeron undoubtedly can still play at a high level even in their 30s, but teams like Washington & Pittsburgh, like Boston a consistent contender in the 2010s, now cling loosely to their old glory in the turning of the decade, and will soon face the same challenges when the slowly aging squad starts to truly show their age.
