Marc Bergevin seems to be looking to avoid a repeat of this off-season as he is rumoured to be nearing a long-term extension with center Nick Suzuki.
Suzuki was acquired by Montreal in the trade with Las Vegas for Max Pacioretty.
Suzuki took a huge step forward with 41 points in 56 games last season, but really broke out as a top player when he added 16 points in 22 playoff games on route to a Stanley Cup appearance.
Suzuki has shown to be a big game performer with 23 points in 32 career playoff games including 11 goals.
Update:
The deal is done.
