The Montreal Canadiens have not had the best season when it comes to the standings, but knowing that they are rebuilding for the future, the season can almost be called a success.

They saw young players like Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Kaiden Guhle and Kirby Dach all take huge strides in their development, and we saw some emerging players like Arber Xhakej make their debuts.

The only thing the Montreal Canadiens can truly be critizied for this season is the lack of trades made at the deadline and throughout the season. Many were hoping to see players like Josh Anderson, Christian Dvorak, Mike Hoffman and even Jonathan Drouin traded away for assets, but here we are nearing the end of the season and all players are still in Montreal Canadiens uniforms.

One of the big dissapointments was Sean Monahan, who the Montreal Canadiens received along with a first round pick from the Calgary Flames. Monahan started off the season on fire for Montreal, and it looked like it was going to be a sure fire steal of a trade as they were going to be able to flip him at the deadline for even more assets, but due to injury, Monahan has only gotten into 25 games this season, and now it's just been released that that's all he will play:

Forward Sean Monahan underwent season-ending groin surgery.

The Montreal Canadiens have been plagued with injuries this season, and the list just continues to grow:

Alex Belzile and Sean Monahan are the eighth and ninth Canadiens players to have their seasons ended prematurely due to injury. David Savard, Kaiden Guhle, Arber Xhekaj, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky, Josh Anderson+Christian Dvorak the others. I have never seen anything like it
