One of the biggest topics for many years now is the Edmonton Oilers goaltending and the lack of a true number one.
Mike Smith during the first 2 rounds of the playoffs this year was lights out and sported a .930 save percentage after 2 rounds, but fell apart against the Colorado Avalanche. While this was not the whole reason that the Oilers were swept, it definitely contributed.
With the season over now, Mikko Koskinen a UFA, and Mike Smith considering retirement, the goaltending conversations will be in full swing for the Oilers this offseason.
According to recent reports, Mikko Koskinen has made his decision already and has signed elsewhere, leaving the NHL.
NATIONAL LEAGUE | Confirmed - HC Lugano signs goalie Mikko Koskinen to a two-year deal #HCL #Oilers
Koskinen had just finished a deal that paid him $4,500,000, a deal that hurt the Oilers cap wise for many years as he never truly developed into that number one goalie that he was paid to be.
