There has been speculations for weeks on Nathan MacKinnon's next contract. Will it happen before the season, will it wait until next year? Well, we just found out the answer.
Nathan MacKinnon signed a max 8 year contract to remain with the Colorado Avalanche.
MacKinnon stated last season that he would take another team friendly deal to allow the team to bring in more players around him to improve the roster, but it seems like that quote has now been thrown out the window. After winning the Stanley Cup, MacKinnon has went for the big money!
Up until today, Connor McDavid was the highest paid player in the National Hockey League making $12,500,000, but MacKinnon now owns that title.
It was rumoured that after he won the cup that MacKinnon would become the highest paid player in the NHL, and now he is ... by $100,000.
