BREAKING: Junior League Speaks On The Suspension Of 100 Players
In breaking news, this Junior League has just released a statement on the suspension of over 100 players.
AJHL Speaks On Teams Moving to BCHL
Last week it was released that 5 teams would be leaving the AJHL to play for a rival league, the BCHL. The news rocked the AJHL as, according to them, they had no previous knowledge of what was happening prior to the announcement made by the BCHL.
In turn, the AJHL has decided to cancel a handful of games for the teams that are going to be leaving the league, however, released a controversial statement saying that those teams were not suspended.
"The Alberta Junior Hockey League continues to operate as a member of the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) and has not suspended any of its 16 member teams. All games played have been league sanctioned, under the
management of AJHL game officials, and recorded in the League standings.
The following games have been canceled for the originally
scheduled dates:
- January 23: Canmore Eagles @ Okotoks Oilers
- January 24: Sherwood Park Crusaders@ Camrose Kodiaks
- January 24: Spruce Grove Saints @ Lloydminster Bobcats
The AJHL will continue to assess next steps and schedule
implications."
Clearly, this is not the right move to make on the part of the AJHL, as it is punishing players for the team who likely had no say or part in the decision to leave the league. Fines for owners would be more appropriate.
We will see how this fiasco plays out as the season continues.
