Day after day it feels like we are reporting on something new and exciting on the waiver-wire this season. We've seen Stanley cup champions, former 30 goal scorers, multiple first round picks, including a former third overall pick all placed on waivers and today is just another day we see someone placed on waivers.
The Detroit Red Wings are quite a few goaltenders in their system. We saw just a few weeks ago, they put goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic on waivers who was once thought to be their future starter.
This past offseason, the Red Wings signed Gold Medal winning Jussi Olkinuora to a one year deal after having a solid season in the KHL last year. Olkinuora won the Gold Medal with Team FInland in the 2022 Olympics.
He started this season off in Grand Rapids playing in the AHL and after 15 games, it looks like both the 32 year old Olkinuora and the Detroit Red Wings have seen enough of each other.
The Red Wings announced today that Olkinuora has been placed on waivers for the purpose of contract termination.
