The Arizona Coyotes made it official that they've signed Alex Galchenyuk to a one year league minimum contract for $750,000. This is Galchenyuk's second stint with the Coyotes as he had previously played the 2018-2019 season with Arizona before being traded as apart of the Phil Kessel deal.
Galchenyuk has spent the last couple of seasons bouncing around while playing with Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Ottawa and Toronto (Marlies/Maple Leafs), during this time Alex was also traded to Carolina before being waived and dealt to Toronto.
During his time in Toronto the Leafs made a conscious effort to help repair Galchenyuk's damaged mindset and used a brief stint with the Marlies to help get his head in the right place. There has never been a question about Galchenyuk's talent, but his compete level and effort have been an issues. If you'be had an opportunity to watch Amazon's All or Nothing there is a scene where Kyle Dubas speaks about "making sure we do right by the player and not do what every other team has done with him."
This seemed to be a turning point in Alex's career. Upon his arrival with the Maple Leafs he was paired with William Nylander and John Tavares and produced 12 points in 26 games and was one of the few bright spots for the Leafs' in their first round elimination posting 4 points in 6 games for Toronto.
Galchenyuk has definitely put in the work and deserves this opportunity! Good luck Alex
