The Pittsburgh Penguins surprisingly find themselves in a playoff race in the final days of the regular season. However, they will have to compete for that coveted playoff spot without Ryan Graves, whom the team has placed on injured reserve.

The Penguins were more or less resigned to missing the playoffs a couple of months ago. At the Trade deadline, Kyle Dubas saw that the team wasn't good enough to make the playoffs so he traded away Jake Guentzel. However, since then, Sidney Crosby has returned to prime form and the team remains alive in the last days of the regular season. However, the team also announced today that defenseman Ryan Graves has been placed on injured reserve.

The Penguins have just four games left in the regular season, including tonight's contest against the Detroit Red Wings. As such, Graves will in fact, miss the remainder of the regular season at least. Should the team somehow sneak into the playoffs, it is not clear when he could possible return. However, he was seen practicing with Noel Accari ahead of practice this morning, indicating that he would likely be available for game one of the playoffs in that scenario.
Noel Acciari (IL, lower body) and Ryan Graves (concussion) are working out on the ice before the Penguins morning skate.
The Penguins are currently tied with the Red Wings 2-2 as the game enters the second period. Whoever wins this one could very well cement their spot in the playoffs.
