On Day 2 of the NHL Draft, the Islanders messed up the Rangers' plans to draft Daniil Prokhorov, as the Isles picked him just one spot ahead of the Blueshirts.

After a strong first day at the 2025 NHL Draft, the New York Islanders began Day 2 by selecting towering Russian winger Daniil Prokhorov with their 42nd overall pick.
Daniil Prokhorov, who played for MHK Dynamo St. Petersburg in the MHL, scored 20 goals and added seven assists in 43 games, showcasing to all his lethal shot and solid puck skills.

Daniil Prokhorov was one of the tallest players to get drafted

But it's his 6'6», 218-pound frame and bruising physicality that stand out the most, as he relishes contact and routinely overpowers defenders on the other side.
Interestingly, Prokhorov revealed that his best draft interview was with the Islanders, which is only fitting that they chose him. He said it felt like he had known them for 20 years.
He felt such a strong connection that he confidently told others, specifically the New York Rangers, who were picking right after at number 43, that they wouldn't get the chance to draft him.
He said this because he was confident the Islanders would be selecting him with the pick just before, further adding to this ferocious rivalry between the New York clubs.
"I had the best talk with Islanders. Like I knew them for 20 years. NYRangers
wanted to choose me at the 43rd number. But I said that they won't succeed, because NYIslanders will choose me at the 42nd."

- Daniil Prokhorov
Prokhorov fits the mold of the Islanders' recent picks, including Victor Eklund and Kashawn Aitcheson, who are all highly competitive and hard-nosed players.
While Prokhorov is expected to stay overseas for further development, his blend of size, grit, and scoring upside makes him a compelling long-term prospect for GM Mathieu Darche's vision, and we could see him tear up the NHL one day in the not-too-distant future.
