Josh Morrissey gets honest about Connor Hellebuyck's future with the Jets

Morrissey isn't pretending the Hellebuyck questions don't exist, and that honesty says more than any denial could.
Josh Morrissey has heard every version of the Connor Hellebuyck rumors this offseason, and instead of brushing them off with a canned answer, he chose a more revealing route.
Rather than insisting nothing is going on, Morrissey acknowledged that the noise is real, that the future isn't fully in Winnipeg's hands, and that he simply hopes his goaltender sticks around.
It's a small distinction, but it's the kind of wording that tends to get people paying closer attention.
"You can't believe everything you might see or hear out there. At the end of the day, I hope Helle is back playing for us. He's the best goalie in the world. But what happens, doesn't happen, whatever, that's with him and his agent and the organization. It's something that's part of the game and part of the business.”

The backdrop here matters.
Winnipeg won the Presidents' Trophy in 2024-25, then stumbled to a seventh place finish in the Central Division the following season, becoming just the fifth team in league history to miss the playoffs the year after topping the standings.
Hellebuyck, meanwhile, is coming off a Hart, Vezina and Jennings sweep in 2025 and an Olympic gold medal run with Team USA this past winter in Milan.
He's also been open about the Stanley Cup being the one thing missing from his resume, and whether Winnipeg can deliver that in a reasonable timeframe is fair to question.
Why the timing feels different this time
Darren Dreger reported back in June that Hellebuyck wouldn't necessarily rule out a change of scenery, and Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff never fully shut that speculation down.
Since then, the temperature has cooled somewhat, but it hasn't disappeared.
What Morrissey brings to the conversation
Morrissey, at 33 himself, understands the clock is ticking on this era of Jets hockey.
He remains a legitimate 50 to 60 point producer from the blueline, and 14 of the 17 regulars from that Presidents' Trophy roster are still in Winnipeg.
The pieces are there. Whether the goaltender is too remains the biggest question of the summer.
