Jets star Josh Morrissey calls out several players after playoff exit
The Winnipeg Jets lost four straight games to the division rival Avalanche in embarrassing fashion, and now their top star has called out the team.
While his team was stifled at every possible moment, Josh Morrissey starred for the Jets in their round-one loss, and despite the team giving up five or more goals in every game, Morrissey impressed, tallying a +/- of exactly 0. The team play just wasn't up to scratch against an elite, Stanley Cup winning group, and Morrissey acknowledged that after the series.
They brought the Stanley Cup-winning class to this series, and we didn't return it for three or four of those games, Morrissey added. So we have levels that we need to find this offseason, and I hope it stings for all of us into the summer, and we use it as motivation.
Morrissey isn't going to let this break the team however, as he acknowledged that the team can learn from it and get better, and with a solid core in place led by Morrissey, Hellebuyck, Scheifele and other veterans, they have the pieces to make a bigger run than this.
Right now it's just disappointing, it's frustrating, it feels like a missed opportunity ... but the only way that there's any good from this is that we learn from it.
With Head Coach Rick Bowness taking plenty of criticism for his inability to make adjustments, the front office has some major decisions to make this summer, and if they do it right, this could be a team that makes a huge run next season. For now though, it clearly stings for everyone involved in the organization, and with a player like Morrissey calling it out, he's showing great leadership skills that may one day make him captain of this team.
