Vincent Iorio is a very talented young prospect for the Washington Capitals, but on Wednesday the team officially placed the 22-year old on waivers.
The Washington Capitals put together a historic campaign in 2024/25, and while they may not be able to repeat that this season, the future remains very bright for this team moving forward.
While all eyes are on the likes of
Ryan Leonard,
Andrew Cristall and
Cole Hutson, they've got some other intriguing names in the system that could help them in the years to come, and on Wednesday, they surprisingly waived one of those players.
Vincent Iorio Placed on Waivers by the Capitals
After a solid start to the new year, it appears as though Vincent Iorio isn't going to find his way into the Capitals lineup, and as such, they've attempted to send the young blue liner back to the AHL, placing him
on waivers in the process.
The 22-year old was a second-round pick of the Capitals back in the 2021 NHL Draft, and since the 2022/23 campaign, he's appeared in nine games for Washington, tallying just one assist in that time along with a +1 goal differential.
However, in the AHL he's been much more productive since debuting back in 2022/23, posting 34 points in 127 games played over the past two seasons with the Hershey Bears, helping lead this team to two Calder Cups in that time.
While he's not managed to break through the NHL system in Washington, there's still immense potential there, and now, the Capitals will be holding their breath as they wait and hope he passes through waivers.
