Throughout the last week, retirement rumors around Alex Ovechkin have picked up and today Tom Wilson seemed to confirm the rumors.

Alex Ovechkin is in the final season of his current contract with the Washington Capitals and with the lack of an extension many believe this could be it for the NHL legend.
Earlier this week, Ovechkin was seen saving pucks from warmups in Toronto which seemed to first spark the retirement discussion.
Since then, reporters have been asking other players including Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby about Ovechkin’s potential retirement.
Today, Ovechkin’s teammate Tom Wilson was asked about the situation and gave an enlightening answer.

Tom Wilson seemingly confirms Alex Ovechkin retirement rumors with latest interview

First, Wilson spoke about the legendary rivalry between Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby over the years as the Capitals travel to Pittsburgh.
Obviously, no one’s got a crystal ball, no one knows what’s happening in the future. But there will never be another rivalry like that, there will never be Ovi and Crosby ever again. It’s just two legends coming in at the same time and going at it for their whole careers. And both having such longevity, and both carrying the weight every single season.

Then, Wilson was asked specifically about Ovechkin and confirmed lately Ovi has been signing a lot more things for opposing players and fans.
Wilson said he only has a few autographed items from Ovechkin—one being the stick he used to assist 895. Unprompted, Wilson added that Ovi has been signing *a lot* of memorabilia for opposing teams after every game lately.
While this does not outright confirm Ovechkin’s retirement the change in actions is noticeable from the long time pro.
If this is indeed Ovechkin’s last season in the NHL he will go out on top as the league’s all-time leading goal scorer and playing against longtime rival Sidney Crosby.
As more news regarding Alex Ovechkin’s potential retirement surfaces we will pass that news along to you.
