There haven't been many blockbuster deals yet this season, but early on Monday, we saw an intriguing trade for two talented defenseman.

Early in the 2025/26 season, we're yet to see a blockbuster deal go down, but recently we saw an intriguing trade of two talented yet underrated defenseman.
On Monday, it was officially announced that the Washington Capitals have acquired blue liner Corey Schueneman from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Calle Rosen, sending the latter back to his latest NHL team.
Neither player has played in the NHL in a significant capacity over the past two years, but both have solid experience at the top level, and with the teams looking to swap depth, AHL defenseman, this is a trade that could end up working out for both teams.
Schueneman was initially un-drafted coming out of the USHL, with his best season being back in 2021/22 with the Montreal Canadiens when he posted 2 goals and 6 points in 24 games played, but since then, he's appeared in just 11 NHL games for Montreal and St. Louis, posting one assist in that time.
As for Rosen, he also entered the league un-drafted, although with a little more expectation following immense success in Sweden, and after winning the Calder Cup with the Toronto Marlies back in 2017/18, hopes were high.
Since then, he's appeared in 93 NHL games, posting 11 goals and 31 points, and while he's never grown into the role as a full-time NHLer, he has solid experience and could be a good pickup for St. Louis, with both teams believing the swap of AHLers would be best for the players involved and the team.
