Ivan Miroshnichenko is drawing trade interest from the Canucks, Flames, Kraken, Kings and Flyers after Washington gave him permission to seek a deal.
The Vancouver Canucks are now part of a growing crowd chasing Washington Capitals winger Ivan Miroshnichenko.
Fourth Period reports that the Canucks are among the teams believed to have interest in the 22-year-old, and he is also generating interest from the Flames, Kraken, Kings and Flyers, among others.
The timing makes sense. Elliotte Friedman reported Saturday that Washington has given Miroshnichenko permission to talk with other clubs about a trade, though the Capitals want a legit return before moving him.
Why Washington is listening
Miroshnichenko has played just three games for the Capitals this season, scoring one goal while averaging 11:03 of ice time.
The forward group is crowded, and he has been stuck on the outside looking in.
Waivers are not an option either.
Since he made the team out of training camp, he is no longer waiver-exempt, so sending him to Hershey would mean exposing him to the rest of the league.
Washington has no interest in losing a former first-round pick for nothing.
That leaves a trade as the cleanest path, and the list of suitors looks deep.
What a deal could look like
Friedman said on his 32 Thoughts podcast that Miroshnichenko's value could be similar to the Egor Chinakhov trade.
Think mid-round picks, not a blockbuster.
The Russian winger was picked 20th overall in 2022 and signed a two-year, $1.85 million extension last October.
He has 14 points in 55 career NHL games, with six goals and eight assists.
Those totals are modest, but he has produced in the AHL, and a team willing to give him steady minutes might find real upside.
For Vancouver, a young forward on a cheap deal is easy to like.
The Flames, Kraken, Kings and Flyers all make sense as fits too, and Washington can afford to wait.
