Alex Ovechkin became the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer this season, and now, he's promised a big celebration for whichever player can break the record.

This past season was another incredible one for Alex Ovechkin, as the Washington Capitals captain finally completed his pursuit of history, passing Wayne Gretzky to become the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer.
The coverage of the chase, the play on the ice and the support Ovechkin received, namely from the former record holder Wayne Gretzky made it absolute must-see for NHL fans, and when he finally passed the record on Long Island, The Great One was there to celebrate the new record holder.
Recently, Ovechkin was asked about how he would react if and likely when his record gets broken, and he unsurprisingly handled the idea with the class that Gretzky had during this entire situation.
God willing, someone will break my record. I won't name names, there are a lot of talented and great players. If that happens, then of course I will congratulate that player, just like Gretzky congratulated me.
While he didn't name who he believes could be in the running to dethrone him, Ovechkin did note that there are many talented players out there, and simply put, records are made to be broken, so there's someone out there that can get it done.
Throughout this whole chase, Gretzky was a major supporter of Ovi, just like Gordie Howe was when Gretzky approached his record, and in what appears to be a tradition, Ovechkin will keep it going when the day finally comes, and while that's not going to be for a long, long time, it will be another amazing spectacle for the NHL when it happens.
