Ovechkin Makes Massive Statement Ahead Of Possible Final NHL Season
Considering he always been vocal about his intentions to compete in the KHL after his NHL journey, it would make sense for him to leave North America after the next season.
What he had to say in a recent interview confirmed his plans for the next season and the urgency he must start to fell to win a last Cup.
Here's what he mentionned when he was asked to open up on his goal for 2025-26:
"Play well and try to win the Stanley Cup."
Ovechkin's uncertainty keeps fans guessing about his future, adding drama to the Capitals' upcoming season
Many say that next season will be your last in the NHL. Your wife has already confirmed it.
Ovechkin: And how did she confirm? She said, maybe we will come and play in Russia. But anything is possible.
- The date was not announced?
Ovechkin: Of course. This is pure nonsense, which you guys are starting to turn over and put Nastya in such a position. We'll see.
- So you admit that you will continue?
Ovechkin: Anything is possible.
Ovi can stop chasing the goal record, but he'll never stop chasing the Stanley Cup. Following last year's disappointing elimination in the second round, Ovi sounds ready to go for another campaign:
"Everything is fine, we are preparing with a positive attitude and a good mood."
With the Capitals finishing atop the Eastern Conference last season, they'll enter 2025-26 as one of the Metropolitan Division's favorites. And with Ovechkin's contract expiring next summer, the chase for another Cup could be his most motivated yet.
