The Vancouver Canucks may have fallen short in the playoffs, but Nikita Zadorov had great things to say about them... not as much about his former team however.
This past season was a drama filled one for the Calgary Flames, with no bigger story than the public trade request of Nikita Zadorov, who was granted a trade to the Stanley Cup hungry Vancouver Canucks. He clearly enjoyed his time with the Canucks, even if they fell short in the playoffs, so much so that he was happy to take a swipe at his former team out of nowhere.
"Hockey in Canada is different. I can compare it to Calgary, but the Vancouver fanbase is bigger. Calgary's not even the number 1 team in Alberta. #Canucks @Sportsnet650."
It's unclear why he called out the Flames at this moment, as the team routinely treated him well before granting his trade request, so there must be some hard feelings left over from the lack of contract talks the two sides had during his final months with the team.
Zadorov however played a fantastic role for the Canucks, so much so that reporters were asking him if he was pricing himself out of a contract extension in Vancouver, to which he replied by taking a cheeky dig at the media in Edmonton.
"You've got to stop listening to Edmonton reporters," says Nikita Zadorov about reports about his contract negotiations. #Canucks
The media in Canada aren't always the easiest thing for players to deal with, and now Zadorov appears to be ingratiating himself with the media in Vancouver as he heads into the off-season looking for a huge new contract.
