Top Defenseman Suspended For Illegal Check To The Head
The Vancouver Canucks have shown that they are serious about contending this year. They have been one of the busiest teams in the league as they have acquired multiple players via trade, including Nikita Zadorov. However, the big defenseman will be missing some time after a play he made today.
Zadorov Ejected After High Hit On Red Wings Star Forward
The 6'6" defenseman has been known to through a questionable hit here and there although he rarely gets suspended. However, the hit he made on Lucas Raymond tonight did look to be particularly bad.
Nikita Zadorov has been given a match penalty for this hit on Lucas Raymond
The fact that he got a match penalty is a good predictor that a suspension could be coming. Later this evening we got more confirmation that this will almost certainly result in a suspension for the 28-year-old.
Zadorov Facing Suspension After Dirty Hit On Raymond
The NHL's Department of Player Safety confirmed later this afternoon that the defensemen would be having a hearing about the hit tonight. It is quite unusual for a player to have a hearing on the same day as the play but given how early in the day this one was, that seems to make the most sense.
Vancouver's Nikita Zadorov will have a hearing this evening for an illegal check to the head on Detroit's Lucas Raymond.
Update: Zadorov received a two-game suspension for his actions.
