The Vancouver Canucks already have plenty of drama to deal with after a 2024-25 season where expectations clearly weren't met, and a recent development where top prospect Tom Willander left North America amid a contract statemate.
Fans will, unfortunately, have to brace themselves for even more bad news as Elias Pettersson's agent, JP Barry, is hinting at his client being moved in a blockbuster trade over the summer.
Barry recently appeared on the Donnie and Dhali Show where he told host Rick Dhaliwal that he isn't really surprised to see Elias Pettersson's name come up in trade rumours, adding his client is planning a big offseason.
"J.T. tried hard to help fix the situation. A lot of people in our organization worked on it, and we had hoped that it could get back to where it was a year ago, because the same two players played a year ago, both had good years, and the team won the division."
As per Puckpedia, Pettersson's current contract doesn't run out until after the 2031-32 season, and carries a cap hit of $11.6 million per season. That won't be easy to move, unless a team really believes he can turn things around.
Pettersson completed 2024-25 with 15 goals and 45 points, his lowest numbers since the 2020-21 year.
