Utah Mammoth Implicated in Legal Troubles Over New Team Name
The Utah Mammoth are suing hockey bag company Mammoth Hockey LLC to have the courts step in and resolve a trademark dispute, according to reporter Belle Fraser.
The Utah Mammoth hockey team filed the lawsuit this month against a company named Mammoth Hockey LLC, who are the sellers of "high-end hockey bags."
According to the lawsuit, the hockey bag company supported the NHL team adopting the Mammoth name, which it did after gathering fan support over the course of last season.
The Utah Mammoth Report that Mammoth Hockey LLC Changed Their Tune Recently
They reportedly even "approached [the team] about a possible collaboration." But in June, the Utah Mammoth claimed that the bag company "reversed course," and claimed the NHL team's name violated trademark rights.
The NHL team alleges that Mammoth Hockey "does not maintain and has never filed" any trademark application for the «Mammoth» designation in the United States of America.
The team also pointed out the differences in design between the two logos, namely, the color as well as the shape. Mammoth Hockey says it has operated since 2014, over a decade before the Utah Hockey Club changed their name.
Fans and the Utah Mammoth organization hope this can be resolved so that it does not lead to any distractions on the ice during the upcoming season.
