Utah Hockey Club Choose Their New Name After Legal Proceedings

When the new Salt Lake City NHL franchise was announced, fans around the league were full of excitement about hearing the details on the new organization, with many being left disappointed when they were simply named Utah Hockey Club.

The team made it clear however that that was just temporary, with voting taking place this season to choose between three final names: Utah Hockey Club, Utah Outlaws (after a change) and the Utah Mammoth.

While it's unclear exactly what name the team have landed on, the organization have reportedly made it final internally, with a recent trademark update potentially spoiling their decision.

According to reports, the Utah Mammoth is the only one of those three trademarks that has been extended, with that extension taking place in early February, signalling that is likely the name the organization will go with moving forward.

With their unique colour scheme and a potentially unique name, this makes the Utah squad stand out among the NHL, and with the young core clearly taking steps forward in 2024/25, excitement around the city and the team continue to build.

In an update however, it has been revealed that the Utah Outlaws name has not yet needed an extension and won't until April, so while the team name may be decided internally, until it's announced, no one can be 100% certain which moniker the organization will officially make their own.

Ultimately, all three are solid options for the Salt Lake City franchise, and if the jerseys and moniker are done properly it should be a major win, but for now, only time will tell which name comes out on top.
