The Maple Leafs placed forward Bo Groulx on waivers Monday, Elliotte Friedman reports, and he can be claimed by any team over the next 24 hours.
Bo Groulx is on waivers. The Toronto Maple Leafs placed the 26-year-old center on the wire Monday, and Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman passed along the news around 2 p.m. ET.
Friedman also noted that Dylan McIlrath, the Washington Capitals defenseman placed on waivers Sunday, cleared.
Every other team has 24 hours to put in a claim.
If more than one club does, waiver order decides, and he would be with his new team by Tuesday evening.
If nobody bites, Groulx is most likely headed to the Marlies in the AHL.
A quiet start to the season
Groulx has appeared in seven NHL games this season and has yet to record a point.
He has struggled to carve out a regular NHL role with Toronto.
The move came on the same morning John Tavares returned to practice.
The Leafs signed him to a two-year contract worth $1.625 million on July 1, 2025, which carries a cap hit of $812,500.
The deal runs out after this season, so he is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
He is a 6-foot-2 left-shot center who was born in France.
What he did last season
Last season, Groulx put up 28 goals and 52 points in 59 AHL games, then added five points in 13 NHL games with Toronto.
He spent 2024-25 entirely in the AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack.
That production is a big reason a claim is a real possibility.
Toronto opens a six-game homestand Tuesday against the Utah Mammoth, so the roster picture should clear up quickly.
If Groulx clears, he stays in the organization as depth.
If he's claimed, the Leafs lose a player who produced at the AHL level a year ago.
