David Kampf was once a valued member of the Maple Leafs bottom-six, but after the drama surrounding his AHL demotion, his contract has been terminated.
Over the past few years, the Toronto Maple Leafs have had some solid players in their bottom-six, and while they all play their role well, they've failed to get much of an impact from the bottom of their lineup.
One of those players is David Kampf, who scored just 13 points in 59 games with the team a year ago, but after a logjam up front for the team, they decided to move on with him and send him back to the AHL after clearing waivers.
Unfortunately, Kampf didn't seem to like that too much, with the team
suspending Kampf after he decided to step away from hockey, despite still being under contract with the Maple Leafs.

That led to an
ultimatum from the team, either Kampf can return or his contract can be terminated, and on Thursday we got that official resolution, according to top insider Darren Dreger.
After plenty of speculation over his future, Dreger reveals that Kampf will be placed on waivers today for the purpose of contract termination, with the 30-year old's five-year run with the organization set to come to an end.
With very little production these past few years, it's unclear if there's a spot in the NHL for Kampf elsewhere, but now, we'll wait and see if he is claimed on waivers or we will see what the future holds beyond hockey in North America for the talented veteran forward.
