Maple Leafs make goalie move following injury to Anthony Stolarz
Anthony Stolarz went down with an injury for Toronto, and now their depth is being tested after making a move involving Artur Akhtyamov.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been off to an unusually slow start in 2025/26, and while a record of 8-8-1 isn't terrible, this is a team that finds themselves towards the bottom of the standings in the Eastern Conference.
Now, the injuries continue to pile up, as the team were already missing Chris Tanev and Scott Laughton, and now, their already beaten up goaltending group has taken another hit.
After an injury to Anthony Stolarz that has him listed as day-to-day, the Leafs top two goaltenders are currently injured, with Joseph Woll working his way back in the AHL after spending the whole season on IR to this point, with the team also losing Cayden Primeau on waivers recently.
Maple Leafs turn to Artur Akhtyamov
Now, they've officially announced a move in the goaltending room, as the team have turned to Artur Akhtyamov, a 24-year old that has 32 games in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies under his belt.
In that time, Akhtyamov posted a 2.82 GAA and an .897 save percentage, and now, the team will turn to him and Denis Hildeby to get them through a tough stretch of games until Woll and Stolarz are ready to lead the way moving forward.
Ultimately, this is the last thing that Toronto needed after a very shaky start to the new campaign, but with solid depth in net, if their new duo can keep them afloat for a few days, this is a team that has the talent to bounce back once they're completely healthy again.
