Maple Leafs Place Goalie on Waivers After Several Poor Performances
Cayden Primeau was an interesting pickup this summer for Toronto, but now the Maple Leafs have placed him on waivers after early struggles.
After spending the first six seasons of his NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens, Cayden Primeau departed the team this off-season, instead, opting to sign with their biggest rivals in the Toronto Maple Leafs.
That comes after struggling for much of the 2024/25 season, and with Toronto having the duo of Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll, they were hoping that Primeau could simply be good depth.
Early in the year, he's been given opportunity due to injuries, appearing in three games for Toronto, but in that time, Primeau has posted a 4.30 GAA and an .838 save percentage, showing that he may not be cut out for the NHL.

Now, Toronto are starting to see that too, as the team have made a major decision on the 26-year old, officially placing him on waivers on Friday, with the hopes that he passes through and heads down to the AHL.
However, there are teams out there that could bet on Primeau's potential, and at 26-years of age, there's still plenty of time for him to turn things around and become a very solid goaltender at the NHL level.
For now though, this is the second straight season that he's been placed on waivers and demoted to the AHL level, having a save percentage under .840 for two straight seasons, so at this point in time, it would be a major shock if Primeau was claimed in the next 24 hours.
