Sheldon Keefe Calls Out Rookie Enforcer Matt Rempe For Dangerous Play
No Shortage of Excitement in Game Between Leafs and Rangers
Last night we had a highly anticipated matchup between two top Eastern conference teams, the Rangers and Leafs. One of the reasons for this anticipation was due to talks that Rookie enforcer Matt Rempe of the New York Rangers would be fighting
Ryan Reaves.
Early on in the game, Rempe shrugged off Reaves and didn't agree to drop the gloves, but after Rempe hammered Lysbushkin with a late hit, Maple Leafs forward Ryan Reaves took exception and the two went toe to toe at center ice.
Sheldon Keefe Speaks out on Matt Rempe's Dangerous Play
After the game, Sheldon Keefe was not happy with the dangerous hit that Rempe laid on the newly acquired Leafs defenceman. You can find the hit below and Keefe's quote below.
"Comes a long way. Leaves his feet. Hits him in the head. Injury," said Keefe while shrugging his shoulders in obvious frustration.
"Injuring players starting to get up as many as the fights now."
Keefe would also add that he felt Reaves' decision to go after Rempe was warranted, given that he had injured Lyubushkin earlier in the game.
"I thought it was good, especially considering the guy knocks one of our guys out of the game," said Keefe.
We may see disciplinary action taken by the Department of Player Safety for this hit, but only time will tell.
The Leafs won't meet the Rangers again in the regular season, but I can forsee a playoff matchup with lost of fireworks in the future.
