One pacific division team highlighted by Maple Leafs analyst for possible Auston Matthews trade

The Toronto Maple Leafs lost one of their key pieces this past summer, and as a result, the team have struggled mightily this season, with no one doing it quite as hard as their captain Auston Matthews, who has dealt with plenty of injuries as well as inconsistencies.

After some historic goal scoring seasons, Matthews has just 14 goals in 30 games played this season, and while that would be a solid season for some, given the expectations, the pressure is mounting on No. 34.

Thus far, there's been little said about Matthews' future in Toronto, but given that the team have lost five of their last six games, the pressure is starting to hit historic levels in Toronto.

As a result, analyst Nick Kypreos has discussed Matthews future, and while no trade rumours have emerged yet, he revealed the belief that the Kings could be the perfect landing spot for the Maple Leafs captain if things start to go that way.

Clearly, the Kings are looking to change things up after struggling to take down the Oilers in recent years, and while the Maple Leafs likely won't consider moving Matthews this season, if he continues his struggles, Los Angeles do make great sense as a team that could make a move for him.

For now though, this talk is certainly premature, with Toronto likely looking to let the 2025/26 campaign play out before they consider any potentially franchise changing moves for the future.
