Maple Leafs set stunning asking price for Brandon Carlo in trade talks

There isn't much going right for the Toronto Maple Leafs right now, as they would miss the playoffs for the first time since 2016, the same year they took Auston Matthews with the first overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, if they began today.

The Leafs have lost three in a row, all to divisional opponents, including the Lightning, Panthers and Senators.

The trade deadline is only days away now, and GM Brad Treliving could be faced with several tough decisions.

One name being floated as a trade possibility is defenseman Brandon Carlo, who the Maple Leafs got from the divisional foe Boston Bruins at this time last year.

Per a report from NHL analyst David Pagnotta, the Maple Leafs are allegedly looking for a high draft pick and a high-end prospect in return for Carlo.

So far this year, Carlo has five assists in 37 games played in what has been an injury-shortened year for him.

Carlo, who played the first portion of his NHL career in a Bruins sweater, was acquired by the Maple Leafs at last year's trade deadline for a steep haul that included Fraser Minten, a top-five protected first round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, and a fourth round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

Carlo helped the Maple Leafs advance past the first round of the playoffs for only the second time since 2004, but then they were knocked out by the Panthers in the second round.

In 674 career NHL games, Carlo has 117 points (29G, 88A).
