Patrik Laine goes after Canadiens reporter on social media after disrespectful comments

It's been a rough year for Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine, who has not played since mid-October after undergoing core muscle surgery.

He's been in only one game so far this year and has an assist.

But he's staying active on social media, and even recently went after a Canadiens reporter for what he thought was an unfair assessment of his play.

After Canadiens analyst Marc Dumont referred to Laine as the NHL's worst 5-on-5 player, Laine responded.

We've seen multiple athletes in recent years target analysts and other fans on social media, perhaps most notably Kevin Durant in the NBA.

It's not a good look for Laine to spend his time worrying about what's said about him online, as criticism will come with the territory of being a high profile professional athlete.

Laine underwent core muscle surgery after having last played on October 17 against the Nashville Predators.

Laine, who was taken with the second overall pick by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, one pick behind Auston Matthews, is in his second year with the Canadiens since being acquired in August of 2024 from the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he said he no longer wanted to play.

In 537 career NHL games with the Jets, Blue Jackets and Canadiens, Laine has 422 points (224G, 198A).
