Maple Leafs receive critical injury update concerning Anthony Stolarz

The 32-year-old goaltender was recently spotted training with longtime goalie coach George Bosak, a strong signal that the lower-body injury that ended his 2025-26 season is firmly in the rearview mirror.

Stolarz went down in visible pain on April 8 against the Washington Capitals after stretching his left leg to make a save, an injury serious enough that former head coach Craig Berube ruled him out for the final three games of the season.

Berube even suggested at the time that the injury could affect Stolarz's off-season training. Seeing him back on the ice with Bosak, working through drills and facing shots from both sides, is a clear sign that recovery is on track.

The stakes around Stolarz's health are higher than usual this offseason.

The Maple Leafs made one of the summer's biggest splashes by signing veteran Sergei Bobrovsky to a three-year, $21 million contract after he left Florida in free agency.

The two-time Vezina Trophy winner and two-time Stanley Cup champion instantly becomes Toronto's new No. 1 goalie, but he is not walking into unfamiliar territory.

Bobrovsky and Stolarz were teammates on that Panthers championship run, with Stolarz serving as Bobrovsky's backup during Florida's 2023-24 Cup season.

That prior chemistry gives Toronto one of the more experienced tandems in the league on paper.

Bobrovsky is coming off a rough statistical season by his standards, a .877 save percentage and 3.07 goals-against average, so Toronto cannot simply lean on him to carry the full workload.

A healthy, sharp Stolarz remains essential to balancing the crease and protecting Bobrovsky from overuse. The early training footage with Bosak suggests the Leafs may have exactly that heading into training camp.
