Leafs Divisional Rival Emerges as Frontrunner to Hire Brendan Shanahan
Brendan Shanahan departed the Maple Leafs this off-season, and now, he's reportedly being considered for a role with the Buffalo Sabres.
For years, Brendan Shanahan was a key piece of the Toronto Maple Leafs front office, helping build this current roster, but after another failed Stanley Cup Playoffs run, the team and Shanahan officially parted ways in the off-season.
We've heard little about him since that point, but given all the experience he has in the NHL and in a front office, the belief around the league is that he wouldn't be without a job for long.
Buffalo Sabres Eyeing Brendan Shanahan
Now, his potential next role in the NHL may have been revealed, with reporter Nick Kypreos revealing several teams could be interested, name dropping a key division rival for Toronto in the Buffalo Sabres.
The most obvious team that may be interested in him is the Buffalo Sabres. It sounds like Shanahan would consider taking a job there; If not Buffalo, what about Chicago? The Nashville Predators are another team.
Not only that, but Kypreos also named the Blackhawks and Predators, and after what he did to help turn around this Maple Leafs team, it appears as though several teams going through a rebuild could see him as a potential key piece to their front office.
While things didn't end well in Toronto and Shanahan couldn't see this team through to a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals, he did a good job rebuilding this team, and while no one in the NHL is perfect, if teams are looking for someone to help through their rebuild, then Shanahan could be a fantastic option.
