In a new interview at the NHL Combine, Toronto Maple Leafs GM officially addressed the injury setback suffered by Max Domi and set a return timeline for him.
Each offseason, NHL talent will take advantage of their time off to get back to full health, and for some players, that means undergoing offseason surgery.
In the case of Max Domi, the veteran forward needed back surgery and went to an outside doctor to get himself back on track, similarly to what Vegas Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel did after arriving from Buffalo.
Unfortunately, something went wrong during the surgery, reportedly leaving Domi unable to walk for several days after surgery and significantly increasing his recovery time.
With the setback, Domi's return timeline to the NHL was unclear, with some reports indicating he could miss all of next season while others indicated he could be back early next season.
Now, Toronto Maple Leafs' new GM John Chayka has spoken and given an official update on Domi's status for next season.

In his latest media availability, Chayka was asked about Domi and confirmed the situation is tough but that Domi is now progressing and will be evaluated next when training camp begins.
It's a tough situation. Ultimately, we'll get to training camp & assess him from there. He's making great progress every day which is the main thing.
It seems that reports of Domi missing a significant chunk of next season have been potentially exaggerated, but nothing will truly be confirmed until Domi comes to training camp in a few months.
Either way, it is fantastic to hear that Domi is progressing and that things are improving even after the terrifying initial prognosis when things went wrong in surgery.
As more information is provided on Domi's recovery and potential return to the Maple Leafs lineup next season, we will pass that news along to you.
