James Reimer has returned to Toronto on a PTO, and now he's joked about his prior experience with the Maple Leafs, avoiding the 'bad memories' that he has.

After a disappointing end to the 2024/25 season, the Toronto Maple Leafs have made some changes this off-season, but in net, they've stuck it out with the duo of Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll.
However, they recently reunited with a veteran netminder, signing former Maple Leaf James Reimer to a professional tryout, likely to give them some insurance incase of injury to one of their top three names.

James Reimer Opens Up on Return to the Maple Leafs, Returning for the First Time Since 2016

Back in 2016, Reimer departed Toronto after six seasons with the team, and unfortunately, not all of those six years were positive for the Manitoba native, as the team struggled for much of that time.
Now, he's opened up on returning to the Maple Leafs with some jokes, noting that there may have been some bad memories during that time, but neither he nor anyone else will remember those.
"I got so many good memories. I'm sure there were some bad memories in there. I don't remember any of them. I'm sure nobody else does either."
Last season in Buffalo, Reimer appeared in 22 games, posting a 2.85 GAA and a .901 save percentage, and while he's not expected to do much in Toronto, if he can play a solid depth role for them, he'll be gladly welcomed back by fans.
Ultimately, the first stint in Toronto may not have ended on the happiest note, but the team and the fans are focused on a potential Stanley Cup run in 2025/26, and if he can contribute to that at all, it's likely that most will forget the memories they have of him from the first stint.
