Mason McTavish and the Ducks have been far apart in contract talks this off-season, but according to Elliotte Friedman, they've finally come to an agreement.
For much of this summer, there has been trade speculation swirling in the NHL, with plenty of that speculation surrounding Ducks star Mason McTavish, who was looking for a long-term deal.
As of this week, it appeared the two parties were very far apart on a potential new deal, with reports that they were
over $10 million apart in potential contract negotiations.
Anaheim Ducks and Mason McTavish Agree to Six-Year Deal Despite Summer of Trade Rumours
Despite all of the trade rumours and the potential lowball offers from GM Pat Verbeek and the front office, all of that has now been put to the side as the two parties have now come to an agreement on a massive deal.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the new deal appears to be worth $7 million annually across a six-year contract, with the Ducks locking in their 2C of the future as the rebuild appears to be coming to an end.
Last season, McTavish had 22 goals and 52 points in 76 games played, and with
Leo Carlsson taking over as the 1C this past year, they've now got one of the most talented centre groups in the entire National Hockey League, with both locked in for years to come.
Ultimately, this is a deal that benefits both parties, as McTavish gets a fairly solid deal while the Ducks lock in a star of the future, and now, they can focus on the upcoming season without all of the distractions that would have come along with him not being signed.
