William Nylander has been solid to start the 2025/26 NHL season, but after their latest loss, Craig Berube has called out the Maple Leafs superstar.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are just 1-2-0 through three games this season, and after back-to-back losses to the Detroit Red Wings, there are plenty of question marks about this team moving forward.
Following the loss of
Mitch Marner, they've not found it quite as a easy to score thus far in 2025/26, and after falling 3-2
to Detroit on Monday, their Head Coach was happy to call out his superstars.
William Nylander Put on Notice by Craig Berube
Following the loss in which the Maple Leafs managed just two goals in the third period, Craig Berube singled out William Nylander as simply not doing enough for this team to consistently win.
We need more out of him... He needs to attack, shoot, and get on the inside more... There are times when he's skating, but it's just not enough.
To this point in the season, Nylander has 1 goal and 3 assists, but overall he's got just three shots on goal through three games, two of them being tough losses to Detroit, and fans on social media have been quick to point out how he simply doesn't look engaged at this point in time.
Ultimately, for this team to have success, Nylander needs to be engaged both mentally and physically, and when he does that, this is a team with plenty of talent, but unfortunately, he hasn't been that to this point in the season, so Berube is clearly hoping to light a fire under him with these comments.
