Insider shuts down reports linking the Maple Leafs to former Canucks General Manager

The Toronto Maple Leafs have begun their search for a General Manager and today according to reports one name has already been taken out of consideration.
The Toronto Maple Leafs made the difficult decision to part ways with GM Brad Treliving earlier this week after a disappointing season.
After the firing, Keith Pelley confirmed he would be in charge of hiring Treliving’s replacement for next season.
One of the names linked to the Maple Leafs early on has been former Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis.
Gillis was in charge of the Canucks during their Stanley Cup finals runs with the Sedin twins which made him an attractive candidate to many.
However, a new report has indicated the Maple Leafs are unlikely to consider Gillis a serious candidate.

According to insider David Pagnotta, there is a strong belief that Gillis and the Maple Leafs do not see a strong fit together.

Gillis has not been a General Manager since being let go by the Canucks in April of 2014 but during that time led the Canucks to the best stretch in the history of the franchise
While Gillis was not considered the top option by any stretch this still does narrow the candidate pool for Pelley and the selection committee to choose from.
