Craig Berube hints the Toronto Maple Leafs could reunite with a familiar face in free agency

In a new interview, Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube linked the team to a potential reunion with forward Scott Laughton in free agency.
Scott Laughton arrived to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers at the 2025 deadline.
He would go on to then spend the beginning part of the 2025-26 season in Toronto as well enjoying moderate success.
With the Maple Leafs out of playoff contention, Laughton was dealt to the Los Angeles Kings where he has seen an uptick in production on a Kings team still fighting for a playoff spot.
Laughton, 31, is on an expiring deal and now Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has hinted that the team could be open to bringing him back.

With Laughton and the Kings coming to Toronto, Berube was asked about his former player and gave a very intriguing response.
He was asked about the possibility of Laughton returning and Berube said he for sure could see a reunion.
Oh yeah, for sure. I could see it, for sure. He really liked it in Toronto. He is from around there, too. That was a bit of a dream for him to go back home and play. I could see him going back there, for sure.
While this does not necessarily confirm Laughton will sign in Toronto this summer it seems Berube would be open to the idea if he remains head coach.
With all of the changes in Toronto in recent days, it will likely remain unclear for a while whether or not Laughton coming back to Toronto becomes a reality or just a theory.
