Four Teams Planning to Offer Mitch Marner the Highest Salary in NHL History, Per New Report

NHL free agency is almost upon us, and while it's not the most star studded free agency class in NHL history, there is certainly going to be plenty of money thrown around by teams.

According to a recent report from The Athletic's James Mirtle, that money could be getting so big, that four specific teams have been identified as ones that could potentially make Mitch Marner the highest paid player in NHL history.

Those four teams are the Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks and Utah Mammoth, all of whom have upwards of $20 million to spend, and with all four looking to make a splash, pitching mega offers to Marner makes complete sense for all of them.

However, conflicting reports as of late have revealed that Marner is more likely to look at Vegas, Florida or Los Angeles as a potential landing spot, as none of the other four options can guarantee him a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and a chance to finally go deep in the post-season.

While they have potential, what they can offer is a deal upwards of $14 million per season, something that would surpass the deal signed by Leon Draisaitl with the Edmonton Oilers last summer, and at that level, it may be hard for Marner to ignore the offers.

At the end of the day, Marner needs to go into free agency knowing what he wants to prioritize in his future at the NHL level, and if money is a bigger factor than potentially competing for the Stanley Cup, don't be surprised to see it go down to the wire on July 1st, with the possibility he signs with one of these four teams.
