Craig Berube explains meltdown on the bench
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube explained his reasoning behind his explosion on the bench that cameras caught while his team was down 2-0 to Chicago.
Things didn't seem to be going right for the Toronto Maple Leafs last night against the Chicago Blackhawks, who had a 2-0 lead going into the third period after a pair of first period goals.
The Leafs also went a long stretch during the first period without a single shot, which naturally drew the ire of head coach Craig Berube. But in the end, the Maple Leafs pulled out a 3-2 win.
Television cameras caught Berube exploding on his team and letting loose several expletives as he urged his team to pick up the pace, which he was asked about after the game by reporters.
Well, giving up a shorthanded goal, and giving up a faceoff goal They shouldn't happen. They shouldn't happen.
We got outmuscled around our net. It is just simple things. That is why I was pissed off. - Craig Berube

He then talked about how he liked the way his team responded not only to his demands of them but to their less-than-ideal situation of trailing by multiple goals in the third period.
Actually, the first part of the first period wasn't a terrible start. It was actually a good start to the game. We gave up a shorthanded goal, and that is a tough one.
The second was a little better, and our third was our best period, which is great to see the battle back. I thought our top line was really good tonight. - Craig Berube

The Maple Leafs Still Let Themselves Trail Into The Third Period
Even though they picked up the win, the Maple Leafs still have issues to hammer out considering they gave up a shorthanded goal.
Berube also did not like how the Maple Leafs surrendered a goal immediately off a face off, something they've worked on multiple times during practice.
The Maple Leafs know they deserved the booing from the fans at Scotiabank Arena, who pay some of the most money of and fan group in the NHL to watch their team play.
