The comments by Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube are under the microscope after their first straight loss, dropping them further in the standings.
It's been five straight losses for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have struggled to put together any kind of consistency so far this season in the second year behind the bench of head coach Craig Berube.
The Maple Leafs also underwent a major change in their core of players during the summer, as Mitch Marner was dealt to the Vegas Golden Knights in a major sign and trade blockbuster move.
Right now, the Leafs are missing several key players because of injury, including captain Auston Matthews, Chris Tanev and Anthony Stolarz.
After their latest loss, 3-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks, the comments by Berube are being put under the microscope as he implied the team is playing without confidence right now.
Right now, we're just a little bit unconfident. Gotta get through that because we had an opportunity to close this game out and win it.
I have to motivate them the best way I can. Maybe it's a kick in the a--, but maybe it is positive reinforcement, too. We did a lot of good things. I think we had 11 or 12 grade-A chances tonight, and we only got two goals out of it. We'd score more than that, for the most part. You're going to have games like that. - Craig Berube

Whatever the issue is for the Maple Leafs, it's clear they need serious work.
The Maple Leafs Are Severely Shorthanded Right Now
Not only did the Maple Leafs lose to the Blackhawks for their fifth straight loss, but they were playing without the aforementioned key names.
The schedule does not pause to allow for players to heal and return from injuries, meaning the Leafs will have to continue pressing on and hope that the rest of the team can step up in their absences.
